A Tent That's A Cot, or A Cot That's A Tent: What Do You Think Of This?

I grew up camping in tents. We slept in or on sleeping bags, depending on what season it was, and almost never used air mattresses. I’ve never had any problem with it, especially as a kid, when you could pretty much sleep on a bed of rocks and jump up in the morning ready to go. Even now, at the ripe young age of 34, I’m fine sleeping on the ground when camping. I’m fine pitching a tent with poles and stakes and giant windows if I need to. Sometimes you need all that space. And sometimes you don’t.

The Kamp-Rite Double looking oh-so-cozy!

I was first introduced to Kamp-Rite’s tent cot a couple of months ago. The concept was awesome. I realized I’d never put much thought into options other than traditional staked tents. My husband and I had the chance to take their Double Tent Cot on a trip to the mountains with the kids to give it a try. “It’s like a folding chair, but with a lid!” My son gave his initial thoughts as we unfolded the Kamp-Rite cot near the larger tent we’d set up. (Obviously, we needed more space for this trip).

Here’s a reenactment we did of the setup process. It’s this easy!

Throughout the trip we took turns sleeping in the tent cot, and the kids gathered in there to “hide from bears” while my husband and I cooked dinner. We escaped into the cot to read, or just relax. We positioned it so you could lie down and see the view of the river directly in front of you. I can’t say enough about the comfort level. It’s the same relaxing feeling you get from lying in a hammock, only you’re stretched out and flat. Suspended, but supported. Add a sleeping bag and pillow, and it just doesn’t get any cozier.

From ease of use to portability to durability (we endured a torrential downpour with not so much as a drop of water inside) to comfort, I can’t go on enough about the Kamp-Rite tent cot. My husband and I have been inspired to GO more, and are making a list of places we want to visit with our cot. First on the list– a beach camping getaway for the two of us. I can’t wait to wake up next to him, and the sound of the ocean, in our cozy cot. We’ll be sure to write more about all the adventures to come…

Kamp-Rite, thank you for creating such an innovative update to our camping traditions, and for making us all so comfortable. We are officially Kampers.
