Stuart WA: Access Only By Boat Or Plane
For many, off the grid is a plane or boat ride away. Stewart Island Washington, and many of the San Juan Islands are those kinds of places:
At the far Northwest tip of the continental US, lies the little island of Stuart. Famous for its hearty couple of dozen hearty residents, living off the grid, the island is served by a couple of boat docks and a nice grass runway. It's a private island, but Bob Brunkow has a house and hangar there, and takes us for a ride into and out of Stuart Island "International" airport. Bob's famous local lore entertains, and ends with a landing at Roche Harbor, on San Juan Island.
